Finally Finished!
Not real sure why this took me so long, seems like I fought with it the whole way. These guys will be flying to Stacey later this week.
As I stated earlier, I chose to remain themeless. Can't wait to see what you do with it Stacey :)
Here we go!
Jenn
Looks great! I already have some ideas about what I am going to add on.
ReplyDeleteLove the way these turned out with the color added to them! Great job!
ReplyDeleteHave you looked at moly_x_9? http://moleskinex9.blogspot.com
ReplyDeletethis looks great jen! love that little splash of red on the 2nd hummingbird.
ReplyDeletei went back and was looking at your in progress shot and was curious about the medium and process. do you ink in the darks and then use watercolor?
ReplyDeleteRacheal, I blocked it in with a dark brown finepoint felt tip pen (work in progress), then I added some light watercolor (didn't want to get the paper too wet). I also used watercolor pencils to build up the colors. It was really experimental for me. I'm used to doing watercolors, but I'm finding that it's not so easy to apply them to moly paper.
ReplyDeleteOh, and markers for the background.
I had quite a bit of trouble with the watercolors on the moly paper too. I think for my future works I am going to stick with paper or try not to work in such dark colors.
ReplyDeleteI have used gouache on moly paper with some success. Maybe because gouache is more opaque than watercolor.
ReplyDeleteI may try that - I didn't buy any gouache until after I had already started fulling in the color on my entry. The only problem I found is that the pages are so small that I have trouble controlling the watercolor. I may try watercolor pencils this time around.
ReplyDeletei like that you were experimenting with technique jen!!
ReplyDeletei used tea to stain some pages-already made a mess of my moleskine with drips down the binding. so dont worry about being messy when you all get it.
but yes, i was also disappointed with the paper a little bit. it warped really easy. maybe considering a watercolor moleskine next time i buy one. but, the current one is still fine. at least the paper isn't like the moleskine cahiers--they are completely transparent!
tea? huh....will have to try that. thanks for the tip Racheal.
ReplyDeleteI almost used beet juice last week. I think it would be interesting.
ReplyDeleteWhen I first signed on for the moly exchange I was excited about the japanese accordian album, but I am not liking the paper either. I am up for using an actual sketchbook or maybe a watercolor moleskine next time around. The one thing that I liked about the accordian fold was that each person's entry was connected to the one before it and a continuation.
